Honorary Doctorate Inspires Yar’Adua’s Renewed Commitment to Security, National Service
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, says his conferment with an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership, Governance and National Development has strengthened his resolve to advance national security and public service through innovation and strategic leadership.
The lawmaker, who represents Katsina Central Senatorial District, received the honour at the EuroKnowledge Honorary Doctorate Conferral Ceremony held at the House of Lords in London.
Speaking after the ceremony, Yar’Adua described the award as a recognition of collective effort rather than personal achievement, dedicating it to the people of Katsina Central and his family for their unwavering support.
“I receive this honour with humility. I dedicate it to the good people of Katsina Central whose mandate, prayers and support made this possible, and to my family whose sacrifices have kept me grounded in service,” he said.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s security challenges, the senator commended the Federal and State Governments, as well as the Armed Forces, for ongoing efforts to restore peace across the country.
He identified the worsening security situation in the Sahel as a major contributor to the proliferation of illicit arms and the escalation of insecurity in Nigeria.
According to him, addressing the challenge requires more than conventional security measures.
“Leadership is not about making excuses. Leadership is about bringing solutions to problems,” he said, expressing confidence that the government’s security efforts are yielding positive results.
Yar’Adua said Nigeria would continue to strengthen the use of technology, intelligence gathering and regional cooperation to combat insurgency and other security threats.
The senator noted that the honorary doctorate carries a greater responsibility to continue serving the nation with integrity and commitment.
The EuroKnowledge Honorary Doctorate recognises distinguished individuals for outstanding leadership and contributions to national and international development. Past recipients include President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the late former OPEC Secretary-General, Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo.
Yar’Adua concluded that the recognition would motivate him to redouble his efforts in promoting good governance, national development and the welfare of Nigerians.
The ceremony attracted prominent personalities from Africa, Europe and the diplomatic community.
