The Obidient Movement has reshuffled its national leadership ahead of the 2027 general election, with Dr Moses Paul emerging as the new National Coordinator.

Paul, popularly known as Dr Mo or MadMo, takes over from Dr Yunusa Tanko, who has moved into a new political assignment as an aide to the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi.

The leadership transition followed a virtual meeting involving national leaders and state coordinators of the movement and Obi on September 30, 2026.

Tanko is now expected to concentrate on Obi’s political engagement and mobilisation efforts in Northern Nigeria.

His new assignment comes after he spent about three years coordinating the Obidient Movement and helping to develop its structures across the country.

During his tenure, the movement expanded its coordination network to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, while also strengthening its regional and grassroots structures.

Paul now inherits that expanding network at a critical stage of preparations for the 2027 elections.

A serial entrepreneur, social activist, creative manager and grassroots organiser, Paul has been involved in initiatives centred on civic engagement, leadership development and human-capital development.

He is also the convener of the Free Nigeria Movement, a coalition involving civil society organisations, youth and women groups focused on governance, citizenship and social activism.

His emergence places him at the centre of efforts to coordinate the movement’s state structures and maintain engagement with its growing support base.

Paul is also expected to sustain the movement’s mobilisation activities while working with its regional, state and grassroots coordinators.

The leadership change comes as Obi’s political platform prepares for a fresh phase of mobilisation towards the 2027 presidential election.

For Tanko, the new role shifts his focus from the broader national coordination of the Obidient Movement to political engagement in the North.

For Paul, the immediate task is to consolidate the structures already established and keep the movement’s national network coordinated as the election season gathers momentum.
