Idoma Nation Celebrates Heritage, Honours Echono, Adamu at Centenary

The Idoma nation has honoured TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, and former Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, for their respective contributions and relationship with the community at a ceremony marking its centenary as a member of the historic Kwararafa Kingdom.
The celebration, held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, brought together the recognition of Idoma heritage and the celebration of distinguished individuals who have contributed to public service and maintained ties with Idomaland.
Echono, a prominent bureaucrat and public officer, received the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Adamu was named a Trusted Friend of Idomaland.

The honours formed part of the event’s recognition of outstanding Idoma sons and daughters as well as individuals from outside the community considered friends of the Idoma people.
The Kwararafa Kingdom, associated historically with communities across parts of present-day Taraba, Benue and Nasarawa states, provided the historical context for the centenary celebration.
The event underscored the Idoma people’s commitment to preserving their heritage while celebrating individuals whose public service and relationships with the community have earned them recognition.
