2027: Makinde Group tells Tinubu To Explain North’s Insecurity, Hardship

The Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organization (MDPCO) has challenged President Bola Tinubu to account for his administration’s security and economic record in Northern Nigeria, declaring that his 2027 campaign flag-off in Kaduna cannot erase years of unfulfilled promises.

The organisation described the APC campaign event as political grandstanding, accusing the president of seeking renewed electoral support from a region it claims has suffered persistent killings, abductions, economic hardship and political marginalisation.

In a statement issued on Friday, MDPCO’s Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Nnanna Ihediwa, said Tinubu should explain what the North had gained from his administration since taking office in May 2023.

The group recalled Tinubu’s December 2022 campaign promise in Kaduna to eliminate kidnappers and killers terrorising the region, arguing that continued attacks have raised questions about the effectiveness of the government’s security response.

MDPCO alleged that at least 20,000 people had been killed in northern Nigeria since Tinubu assumed office, while approximately 3.7 million people had been displaced. The figures were contained in the campaign organisation’s statement and were not independently verified.

The group also criticised reports that APC campaign billboards were receiving protection from security agencies while communities remained vulnerable to attacks.

It further accused the administration of sidelining the North in appointments to strategic federal positions, arguing that the region should not be treated merely as an electoral stronghold.

According to MDPCO, voters deserve measurable improvements in security, living standards, electricity, education and economic opportunities—not promises repeated during election campaigns.

The organisation urged Nigerians to consider the APM presidential candidate, Engineer Seyi Makinde, whose RESET NIGERIA agenda it described as an alternative focused on public welfare and accountable leadership.

The statement represents the position of Makinde’s campaign organisation as political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election gather momentum.
