Fresh Battle for ADC Soul Begins as Kachikwu Camp Unveils 2027 Convention Plans

The internal battle for the future of the African Democratic Congress appears to be gathering momentum as a faction loyal to former presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu announced plans to stage a major National Convention ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move is seen as part of a broader effort by the Kachikwu camp to reassert influence within the party, rebuild its national structure and position the ADC as a viable political force in the next electoral cycle.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the acting Chairman of the faction’s National Working Committee, Kingsley Ogga, said the convention would bring together delegates, state executives, youth and women leaders, stakeholders and political observers from across the country.

According to the statement, the gathering will serve as a strategic platform to redefine the party’s direction, strengthen internal democracy and intensify political mobilisation ahead of 2027.

Top on the agenda are the inauguration and ratification of National Working Committee members, talks on party primaries, expansion of grassroots structures and nationwide consultations aimed at reviving the party’s political fortunes.

The faction also said discussions at the convention would focus on governance reforms, national development, youth inclusion, women participation and the ADC’s broader role in shaping Nigeria’s democratic future.

Political observers say the planned convention could deepen the ongoing struggle for control of the party while also testing the ability of emerging opposition forces to organise ahead of the next general elections.

The Kachikwu camp, however, described the convention as a decisive step towards building a stronger and more united political platform capable of offering Nigerians an alternative leadership vision in 2027.
