Vatsa at 64 Raises Alarm Over 2027 Polls, APC Internal Strains
APC chieftain and former Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Jonathan Vatsa, has voiced deep concern over Nigeria’s political climate ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that growing institutional distrust and party-level tensions could destabilise the electoral process.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service marking his 64th birthday, Vatsa cautioned that developments involving the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could become flashpoints if not carefully managed, insisting that the credibility of the democratic process must be protected.
He also turned attention to what he described as escalating internal cracks within the ruling APC, saying the delay in concluding and releasing outcomes of recent primaries reflects a “serious internal imbalance” that could snowball into a wider crisis.

According to him, alleged imposition of candidates through consensus arrangements—particularly in Niger State—has weakened internal democracy and bred resentment among party members. He warned that such practices, if unaddressed, could trigger anti-party activities in the 2027 elections.
Vatsa further argued that while opposition parties struggle with what he described as “external interference,” the APC’s challenges are largely self-inflicted and potentially more dangerous.
Despite his criticism, he maintained that his position stems from loyalty to the party’s founding ideals, stressing that silence in the face of injustice would only deepen political tensions as the country approaches another election cycle.
