RCCG Pastor Odesola: The Man Behind Six PhDs, 150 Books
Pastor Johnson Funso Odesola of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) is known for combining church leadership with an unusual academic record.
Odesola reportedly holds six PhDs, four master’s degrees and four first degrees, making him one of the most academically accomplished pastors in Nigeria.
He currently serves as the Continental Overseer of RCCG Continent 3 and sits on the church’s Governing Council.
Born on June 5, 1959, in Igbajo, Osun State, Odesola grew up in a family involved in sawmilling.
His father wanted the boys to remain in the family business, but Odesola had other plans. Inspired by an uncle, he pursued education and developed an interest in engineering.
His academic journey later expanded beyond engineering into theology, Christian education, musicology, communication, cultural anthropology, law and business administration.
But his achievements are not limited to the classroom.
Odesola is also a prolific writer, with more than 150 books reportedly to his name. His works cover leadership, Christian faith and everyday Christian living.
He has received several international awards and reportedly belongs to more than 40 professional and academic fellowship organisations.
His ministry career has also taken him across Nigeria and beyond. Following his deployment by RCCG General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye, he played a role in expanding the church’s activities in Northern Nigeria.
Odesola is married to Pastor Mrs. Adebisi Odesola.
His family has strong ties with prominent Christian families. His daughter, Titilope, is married to Leke Adeboye, son of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, while another daughter, Tolulope, is married to Joshua Mike-Bamiloye, son of Evangelist Mike Bamiloye.
From a sawmilling family in Osun to senior church leadership, multiple academic degrees and more than 150 books, Odesola’s journey is one of faith, education and determination.
