Africa’s richest industrialist, Aliko Dangote, has dismissed the idea that he needs a male heir to take over his business empire, saying any of his three daughters could successfully lead the Dangote Group.
Dangote made the remarks during an interview with ARISE News, where he spoke about succession, family and the future of his sprawling business empire.
The billionaire said his daughters — Halima, Fatima and Mariya — have shown interest in business and could take the company to an even higher level.
“I can definitely see one of the three that can actually lead,” Dangote said.
Asked whether all three could run the business, he replied, “All of them.”
Dangote said he does not believe gender should determine who succeeds him, stressing that competence, education and creativity should matter more than whether an heir is male or female.
He also warned that having a son simply for the sake of succession could prove counterproductive if the person lacks the capacity to protect and grow the family’s legacy.
According to him, the future of the Dangote Group must be built around professional management and strong corporate governance rather than family expectations.
Dangote pointed to global companies such as Microsoft and Apple as examples of businesses that have continued to thrive beyond their founders.
For him, the ultimate legacy is not merely who inherits his wealth, but what the business achieves for Africa.
