Coalition of NGOs in Kano Condemns Government’s Reckless Abuse of Power
The Coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Kano State, under the Global Initiatives for Good Governance (GIGG), strongly condemns the Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir and Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, for their blatant disregard for the rule of law and the safety of citizens.
Accorsing to the coalition, despite a lawful directive by the Kano State Police Commissioner banning public activities during Eid celebrations due to credible security threats, Governor Abba Kabir and Emir Sanusi defied the order by proceeding with an unauthorized horse-riding event.
They therefore attributed the tragic loss of lives and multiple injuries, that exposed innocent citizens to preventable harm to this reckless decision.
“This is not an isolated case of government negligence. From the very onset of his administration, Governor Abba Kabir launched brutal demolitions that led to the deaths of over 25 innocent people.
“Most recently, another round of demolitions in Rimin Zakara claimed additional lives—yet the Governor has shamelessly declared he has no regrets.
The Coalition demanded immediate investigations and prosecution of those responsible for violating security directives and endangering lives a full public inquiry into the deaths and injuries caused by these reckless actions a clear, public explanation from the Kano State Government regarding its repeated disregard for human life.
“We commend the security agencies in Kano for their professionalism in handling these escalating tensions. However, impunity must not stand. Governor Abba Kabir and Emir Sanusi must be held accountable.
“The people of Kano deserve leaders who prioritize safety, governance, and the rule of law over political recklessness.
“We call on all citizens to demand justice and ensure that those responsible face the full consequences of their actions.”
