Anambra APC leaders boycott rival gathering, reaffirm loyalty to Chairman Emma Anosike.
The leadership crisis within the Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took a fresh turn on Sunday as sixteen Local Government chairmen, twenty-two members of the State Executive Committee (SEC), and twenty-eight party aspirants declared their loyalty to the state chairman, Senator Emma Anosike, after shunning a rival faction’s “Grand Entry” event.
The party officials said their decision to boycott the gathering was a deliberate rejection of what they described as an attempt to create a parallel leadership structure within the party.
The development is the latest twist in the prolonged dispute over the control of the APC in Anambra, which intensified following a court process challenging Anosike’s leadership. The state executive has consistently maintained that the court action does not affect the legitimacy of the current leadership.
According to party insiders, the “Grand Entry” was organised by a faction seeking to assert its influence within the state chapter. However, supporters of Anosike argued that the absence of a significant number of elected party officials and aspirants underscored continued support for the existing executive.
In separate statements, the local government chairmen, SEC members and aspirants reaffirmed their confidence in the Anosike-led executive, describing it as the only recognised leadership of the party in the state. They pledged to remain united behind the chairman and urged members to resist actions capable of deepening divisions within the APC.
The group also maintained that the party should remain focused on strengthening its grassroots structures and preparing for future electoral contests rather than engaging in internal disputes.
The rival faction had yet to respond to the claims at the time of filing this report.
