Aisha Yesufu Fires Back at Media: “I Did Not Quit, I Fought to the End”
Activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has pushed back against reports claiming she withdrew from her senatorial race, declaring that she remained in the contest until its conclusion and never stepped down.
In a strongly worded statement, Yesufu accused some media organisations of distorting the events surrounding the primary election, insisting that the narrative portraying her as having quit the race is false.
“I did not quit. I did not step down,” she said, challenging news outlets to correct what she described as misleading headlines.
According to her, she contested vigorously for the senatorial ticket until the end, but a flawed primary process ultimately produced another candidate.
While expressing dissatisfaction with the conduct of the exercise, she said she chose not to escalate the dispute in order to protect the unity of the party.
Yesufu explained that her decision to accept the outcome was motivated by a broader political calculation, arguing that internal divisions could weaken the party ahead of the crucial 2027 general election.
Rather than engage in a prolonged battle over the senatorial ticket, she said her focus has shifted to the presidential contest, which she considers the most important political prize in the current electoral cycle.
“The 2027 presidential election is the prize that matters in this electoral cycle. I am backing the better candidate in that race. That is where my energy belongs,” she stated.
The outspoken activist also warned against what she called attempts to rewrite the facts, insisting that accepting a disputed outcome for the sake of party stability should not be misconstrued as voluntarily abandoning the race.
She urged media organisations to revisit and correct their reports, maintaining that history must accurately reflect what transpired. “Let no media house rewrite history. Correct your headlines. Posterity is watching,” she said
