ADC Leadership Rift Deepens as State Chairmen-Led Faction Releases Election Timetable

A deepening internal struggle within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a fresh turn as a faction led by state chairmen announced a full timetable for party congresses and its presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The faction, operating under its interpretation of party authority, released a schedule covering ward, local government, state congresses, and the national presidential primary, insisting its process represents the “authentic” structure of the party’s leadership.
According to the timetable, Ward and Local Government Area (LGA) congresses will hold on May 7, 2026, followed by State Congresses on May 8, 2026, while the Special Convention and Presidential Primary is fixed for May 24, 2026.
The announcement highlights a widening contest for control of the party’s internal machinery, with competing claims over who has legitimate authority to organise congresses and determine delegates for future elections.
In its notice, the faction maintained that only activities conducted under its state chairmen-aligned leadership structure would be recognised, warning that any parallel arrangements outside its framework would not be valid.
“All members, aspirants, and stakeholders are advised to align strictly with the official structure led by the state chairmen,” the group said, stressing that only outcomes from its process would be binding for 2027 electoral preparations.
The development underscores ongoing tensions within the ADC over control of its national structure, a situation that could shape its cohesion and readiness ahead of the next general election cycle.
The notice was signed by the Chairman of the State Chairmen Forum, Kingsley Temitope Ogga.
