The Obidient Movement has dismissed reports claiming that its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, has been removed from office by the movement’s presidential figurehead, Peter Obi, describing the publication as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Thursday by its Media and Communications Directorate, the movement said Obi neither removed Tanko nor authorised any individual or group to announce such a decision.
The reaction followed the circulation of a statement attributed to one Francis Nnoli, alleging that Tanko had been removed on the directive of a faction identified as the “Obi Kwankwaso (OK) Movement.”
Rejecting the claim, the Obidient Movement said the publication was fabricated and urged members of the public and the media to disregard it.
“It is entirely false. His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi did not remove Dr. Yunusa Tanko from any position. He did not authorise any individual or group to issue such a statement,” the movement stated.
It added that Obi communicates important organisational decisions only through his official channels, stressing that any announcement of such significance would come directly from him.
The movement also alleged that some individuals were creating fictitious organisations and issuing unauthorised statements in the names of Obi and the Obidient Movement as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election.
It maintained that the Obidient Movement had not defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing claims to the contrary as false.
“The Obidient Movement is not defecting to the APC. These political jobbers speak only for themselves, not for millions of Obidients,” the statement said.
The organisation reaffirmed that Dr. Yunusa Tanko remains its recognised National Coordinator and that all official communications are issued only through authorised channels.
It urged Nigerians to verify political information before sharing it and called on security agencies to investigate those behind what it described as attempts to impersonate the movement and mislead the public.
