2027: Retired Federal Director Emerges ADC Gubernatorial Candidate in Niger
A former Director in the Federal Ministry of Works, Dr. Mohammed Kpautagi Mohammed, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Niger State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He secured the party’s ticket after defeating his opponent, Alhaji Idris Usman, in a keenly contested primary election held across the state. Dr. Mohammed polled 67,924 votes to defeat Usman, who scored 27,769 votes.
According to the State Returning Officer and Secretary of the ADC Primary Election Committee in Niger State, Ibrahim Mohammed, the election was conducted peacefully across 274 wards in the 25 local government areas of the state, with no reported incidents of violence or disruption.
He described the exercise as hitch-free, noting that it reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy and transparent candidate selection.
In the senatorial primaries, Alhaji Shehu Mohammed emerged winner for Niger North Senatorial District, while Niger East Senatorial District produced Muktar Ahmed, who ran unopposed. In Niger South, former Deputy Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Baba Shehu Agaie, defeated former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Abdulrahman Gimba, to clinch the ticket.
The House of Representatives primaries also produced candidates across constituencies, including Mohammed Abubakar (Bida/Gbako/Katcha), Ado K. Abubakar (Tafa/Gurara/Suleja), Mohammed Ibrahim Abubakar (Mashegu/Wushishi/Kontagora/Mariga), Abubakar M. Takuma (Lavun/Edati/Mokwa), Mohammed Nazir Abdullahi (Magama/Rijau), Shitu Adamu Evuti (Lapai/Agaie), Jailani Inuwa (Agwara/Borgu), Dr. Alhaji Mohammed (Chanchaga), and Abdulmalik Kabir (Bosso/Paikoro), while Ismaila Ibrahim emerged for Shiroro/Munya/Rafi Federal Constituency.
For the State House of Assembly, the ADC also produced candidates across 27 constituencies, including Nasiru Waziri (Kontagora I), Bawa Joshua (Munya), Auta Solomon (Tafa), Nuhu Ibrahim (Gurara), Abdullahi Imam (Wushishi), Isah Mohammed (Edati), Abubakar Garba Mohammed (Suleja), Mairogo Hamisu (Borgu), Idris Ibrahim (Shiroro), Riyanu Suleiman (Kontagora II), Abdulwahid Ahmed (Chanchaga), Shehu Haruna Marfa (Mariga), Mohammed Baba Sani (Mokwa), Yusuf Baba (Lavun), Mohammed Umar (Katcha), Adamu M. Wonigi (Agaie), Haruna Labaran (Rafi), Yusuf Aliyu (Bosso), Baba Abubakar (Bida I), and Mustapha Shuaib (Bida II), among others.
Party officials said the primaries were conducted under a peaceful atmosphere, adding that the process reflects the ADC’s growing internal organisation and expanding political structure in Niger State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party is expected to formally present its flagbearers in the coming weeks as preparations intensify for nationwide campaigns.
