Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has urged Nigerians to retain President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in office in 2027, arguing that abandoning the administration’s reform path midway could affect efforts to rebuild the country’s economy and strengthen security.

Bello said Nigeria needed political and policy stability to address problems that, according to him, had accumulated over several years.
Speaking in support of Tinubu’s second-term bid, the former governor said the President had shown the political will to take difficult decisions despite the immediate hardship those decisions had caused.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves the support of Nigerians because he has demonstrated the courage to take responsibility at a difficult period in our national history,” Bello said.
Rather than measuring the administration solely by current economic pressures, Bello urged Nigerians to consider the longer-term objectives of the reforms introduced under the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He argued that major economic reforms require time to produce sustainable results and warned that frequent changes in policy direction could weaken efforts already underway.
“We must learn to look beyond immediate political considerations. Nation-building is not a one-day assignment. Important reforms require patience, consistency and the opportunity for those entrusted with leadership to complete the work they have started,” he said.
Bello also linked his call for continuity to the need for stronger economic opportunities for young Nigerians, improved institutions and greater national stability.
On security, the former governor commended the Federal Government’s use of intelligence-led operations and cooperation between federal and state authorities in tackling insecurity.
He acknowledged that significant challenges remained but urged Nigerians not to lose confidence in the country’s ability to overcome them.
Bello further described Tinubu as an experienced political leader whose involvement in Nigeria’s democratic development, he said, had demonstrated resilience and commitment to progressive politics.
He urged political leaders to place national interest above personal and partisan considerations ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Bello, the election should be viewed not only as a contest for political power but also as a decision on whether Nigerians want the current reform direction to continue.
“President Tinubu should be allowed to continue the work he has begun. Nigeria needs stability, consistency and leadership that is prepared to take difficult decisions in the interest of future generations,” he said.
Bello’s latest endorsement adds to his previous public declarations in support of Tinubu’s re-election, as the political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections gradually takes shape.
