2027: Atiku Demands Clarification from INEC Over Alleged Voter Database Breach
Former Vice President and ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (Independent National Electoral Commission) to urgently clarify reports of a possible breach involving Nigeria’s voter database.
The former presidential candidate raised alarm over emerging claims that sensitive voter information may have been compromised, warning that such an incident—if confirmed—could seriously undermine public confidence in the country’s electoral system ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku stressed that INEC must promptly explain how the alleged breach occurred, the scope of any potential exposure, and the immediate steps being taken to secure the database. He further urged the commission to strengthen its digital infrastructure to prevent any recurrence of similar security lapses.
He maintained that safeguarding electoral data is fundamental to protecting the integrity, transparency, and credibility of Nigeria’s democratic process.
The allegations have already begun to generate widespread concern among political actors and civil society organizations, many of whom are demanding a comprehensive and transparent investigation to establish the facts and reassure voters.
INEC is yet to issue a detailed public response at the time of filing this report.
