Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Babangida Nguroje, has called for greater unity and peaceful coexistence among the people of Taraba State as the state marks its 35th anniversary.
Nguroje, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and Deputy Director, Parliamentarian Mobilisation of the 2027 Presidential Campaign Organisation, said the progress recorded by Taraba since its creation was built on the foundation laid by its founding fathers and sustained by successive administrations.
In a goodwill message to mark the anniversary, he commended Governor Agbu Kefas, former governors Jolly Nyame and Darius Ishaku, the late Danbaba Suntai, former military administrators and other stakeholders for their contributions to the development of the state.
He said Taraba’s greatest strength remained its diversity, peace and unity, stressing that “what binds us collectively is greater than what separates us.”
Nguroje said the state was blessed with enormous human and natural resources, a favourable climate and a strategic location capable of making it a major gateway for trade, energy and investment.
He also praised traditional institutions for preserving Taraba’s cultural heritage and promoting peaceful coexistence among its diverse communities.
According to him, the development gains recorded under successive administrations, including the current government, should be protected and strengthened for future generations.
He urged Tarabans and friends of the state to use the 35th anniversary to renew their commitment to peace, unity and development.
Nguroje said personal, political, ethnic and other differences should not be allowed to undermine the collective interest of the state.
He called on all stakeholders to build on the legacies of Taraba’s founding fathers and work together towards a more prosperous and united state.
“At 35, Taraba must look ahead with renewed confidence. What binds us as a people must remain greater than whatever seeks to divide us,” he said.
