The inaugural Yagba West Unity Cup, sponsored by the Toyosi Akure Foundation (TAF), came to a thrilling conclusion at the weekend, with Vessels FC claiming the top prize.
The finals, played at the ECWA Primary School football field, saw Vessels FC defeat Asalu FC 2-0, securing the coveted golden trophy.
The three-week tournament, which featured 14 teams from various communities in Yagba West Local Government Area, aimed to promote unity and sports development in the region.
Lion Base FC and New Stars FC took third and fourth places, respectively.
Cash rewards and jersey kits were presented to the winning teams, with Vessels FC receiving N100,000 and Asalu FC receiving N50,000. Lion Base FC received N20,000 for third place, while the fair play team received N10,000.
The Toyosi Akure Foundation, headquartered in Houston, Texas, sponsored the tournament as part of its humanitarian efforts to bringing people together and foster community development.
The success of the Yagba West Unity Cup has created a buzz in the region, with expectations high for future editions.
