Peace Tournament: Flying Jet Shock Leaders Ogba United 2-1 in Bassa Clash
By Ishaq Dan-Imam, Lokoja
Flying Jet of Odenyi produced a stunning upset on Saturday, defeating table-toppers Ogba United FC 2-1 in the ongoing Bassa Peace Football Championship in Kogi State.
The Odenyi side dominated proceedings early, overwhelming the highly rated Ogba United in a blistering first-half display. Despite Ogba’s reputation as the most consistent and highest-scoring team in the tournament, they struggled to contain the pace and attacking threat of Flying Jet.
To the surprise of spectators, Flying Jet struck twice in the first half, putting the “Walloping Strikers” on the back foot. Ogba United, known for their resilience and attacking flair, failed to find their rhythm before the break, conceding two quick goals that ultimately shaped the outcome of the match.
Although Ogba United managed to pull one goal back, it was not enough to overturn the deficit, as Flying Jet held firm to secure a memorable 2-1 victory.
The result has significantly boosted Flying Jet’s chances in the tournament, placing the Odenyi team in strong contention for the title as the competition heads into its decisive stages.
Attention now shifts to upcoming fixtures, with Ogba United set to face the Ayede side in a crucial semi-final clash on April 30. They will also battle Young Stars of Oguma on May 4 in what promises to be another high-stakes encounter.
Despite the setback, football fans across Bassa Local Government Area remain optimistic about Ogba United’s prospects. Many supporters pointed to the team’s impressive run of form prior to the defeat, noting their dominance in goal scoring and overall performance throughout the competition.
Ogba United still holds the record for the highest number of goals scored in the tournament, a testament to their attacking strength and consistency. Their performances so far have added excitement and quality to the championship, earning them recognition as one of the standout teams.
For Flying Jet, however, the victory marks a turning point—one that could redefine the narrative of the tournament and signal their emergence as serious contenders for the coveted trophy.
