Tinubu Orders Cabinet Shake-Up, Elevates Oyedele as Finance Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle affecting the composition of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), signaling a renewed push to strengthen economic management and governance delivery.
According to an official memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, two ministers—Wale Edun and Ahmed Musa Dangiwa—are to exit the cabinet as part of the reconfiguration.
In a major highlight of the reshuffle, Taiwo Oyedele has been elevated to the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. He succeeds Edun and is expected to spearhead the administration’s economic reform agenda. Prior to this appointment, Oyedele served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
Meanwhile, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and Minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, subject to confirmation.
The directive also mandates Dangiwa to formally hand over responsibilities to the current Minister of State in the ministry.
The memo stipulates that all handing-over processes must be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Akume noted that the reshuffle is designed to “strengthen cohesion, enhance synergy in governance, and ensure more impactful economic delivery to Nigerians in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
He emphasized that the President acted within the constitutional powers granted under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors.
He also reassured cabinet members that the administration’s process of reinvigoration and performance optimization will remain continuous.
