Senate President Disowns Planned Rally in Akwa Ibom

***Denounces Unauthorized Event as Misleading

The office of the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has distanced him from a planned rally allegedly organized in his support by a group named Progressive Peoples’ Resolution (PPR), led by Ubong Idemudo. The rally, set for April 4, 2025, in Akwa Ibom State, has been declared an unauthorized and misleading event.

In an official statement, Akpabio’s media aide, Jackson Udom, clarified that the Senate President has no knowledge of the rally and strongly urged supporters and the people of Akwa Ibom to disregard the event. Udom stressed that they should remain focused on their lawful activities.

Further condemning the rally, Udom suggested that it is the work of fifth columnists attempting to exploit Akpabio’s name for personal gain and ulterior motives. The statement also called on the Nigerian Police and security agencies to prevent the unauthorized gathering from taking place, given its lack of approval from the Senate President.

This disavowal comes as Akpabio’s office seeks to maintain his image and ensure that his name is not used for any unauthorized political actions.
