Police and military operatives have killed suspected terrorists and recovered two rifles, 188 rounds of ammunition and four motorcycles during a clearance operation in Kebbi State.
The joint operation was conducted at about 6:05am on Monday at Gumki Forest in Kangiwa, an area identified by security agencies as a route used by bandits and Lakurawa elements.
The Kebbi State Police Command said the security team engaged the terrorists operating in the forest and neutralised some of them during the operation.
Among the items recovered were one PKT rifle with 174 rounds of live ammunition and an AK-47 rifle loaded with 14 rounds.
The operatives also recovered two military camouflage uniforms, a pair of boots, two mobile phones, charms and four motorcycles.
The command said the area remained relatively calm as joint security operations continued to clear the forest and drive out criminal elements.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, commended the operatives for what he described as their gallantry and commitment to duty.
Hadejia said the command would sustain intelligence-led operations in collaboration with other security agencies to tackle banditry, terrorism and other criminal activities in the state.
He also urged residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist ongoing operations.
