The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, over an alleged plot to bury a copy of the Holy Qur’an alongside fetish materials in a woman’s room in Zuru Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, in a statement indicated that
Musa, a resident of Rafin Mose Village, Zuru, was arrested in connection with allegations of criminal conspiracy, abuse of religious books, use of spells and hypnosis, and conduct capable of provoking a breach of public peace.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 7:00 p.m. on August 9, 2026, in the Zango area of Zuru.
Preliminary investigation, the Command said, indicated that Musa allegedly acted in concert with two other suspects, identified as Rabi’u Tela, husband of the woman involved, Zarau Hassan, and Hamza Zango.
The police alleged that the suspects dug a pit inside Hassan’s room and buried a copy of the Qur’an with semen, white and red kolanuts, underwear, dead animals and other items described as fetish materials.
The alleged act, according to the Command, was intended to make Hassan more submissive to her husband.
The police further said the circumstances surrounding the alleged desecration were capable of triggering religious tension and disturbing the peace among members of the Muslim community in the area.
Musa remains in police custody as investigators intensify efforts to arrest Tela and Zango.
The Command said the arrested suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of its investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Umar M. Hadejia, condemned the alleged incident and warned that the police would act decisively, within the law, against individuals whose actions threaten religious harmony, public order and peaceful coexistence.
