The Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Command, has arrested seven suspected kidnappers following an attack on a Lagos–Abuja commercial bus along the Ayere-Kabba road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., involved a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Chisco Transport Company, with registration number KJA 405 YJ, travelling from Lagos to Abuja when it was ambushed by armed hoodlums.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the Command said a swift and coordinated response, led by the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, resulted in the rescue of one victim, identified as Adoun Julius, 56.
The police also confirmed the recovery of the attacked vehicle, which has been taken into custody for further investigation, while the rescued victim is currently safe.
According to the statement, joint security operations involving the Police, Military, and other sister agencies are ongoing to secure the release of other abducted passengers. Security operatives have intensified bush-combing and search-and-rescue missions across the area.
“The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), supported by other tactical teams, remains actively engaged in tracking down the perpetrators,” the statement noted.
The Command further disclosed that the seven suspects arrested are already assisting investigators with useful information.
While urging residents to remain calm but vigilant, the police called on members of the public to provide credible intelligence that could aid the ongoing operation.
Families of the victims were also advised to report to the SCID Headquarters in Lokoja, particularly the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, to assist with identification and investigation.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Command warned that those found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
Residents were encouraged to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
