INEC fixes September 19 for five legislative by-elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed September 19, 2026, for five legislative by-elections across four states.
The elections will cover one federal constituency and four State Houses of Assembly constituencies in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states.
The federal constituency election will hold in Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State.
In Bauchi State, voters will elect representatives for the Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies.
The Udu State Constituency in Delta State and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State will also hold by-elections on the same day.
INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Tunde Oketola, disclosed the schedule in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.
Oketola confirmed that the exercise comprises one federal constituency and four state constituencies.
The affected constituencies became vacant, prompting the electoral commission to organise fresh elections to fill the legislative seats.
The September 19 exercise comes as political parties and candidates prepare for a busy electoral season ahead of the 2027 general elections.
