Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Bamanga Tukur, has died at the age of 90.
Tukur died on Saturday at his residence in Abuja after a prolonged illness, his family confirmed to TRT Afrika.
His burial is expected to take place on Saturday at the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa in Yola, Adamawa State.
Tukur, a prominent businessman and politician, served as governor of the former Gongola State during Nigeria’s Second Republic.
Gongola State was later divided into Adamawa and Taraba states.
He also served as Minister of Industries under the military administration of the late General Sani Abacha.
Tukur later joined the race for Nigeria’s presidency before becoming National Chairman of the PDP, where he played a prominent role in the party’s leadership and national politics.
He is survived by 17 children.
