Dagogo Tasks New ADC Leadership on Rebuilding Trust Ahead of 2027

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Farah Dagogo, has charged the party’s newly elected National Executive, led by David Mark, to focus on restoring public confidence in governance as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Mark emerged as the substantive National Chairman of the party at its national convention held in Abuja, securing 1,471 votes in a decisive victory that underscored strong delegate backing.
Speaking on the sidelines of the convention, Dagogo, a former member of the House of Representatives, congratulated the new leadership but stressed that the real work begins immediately. He warned that the expectations of Nigerians are already high, placing a heavy responsibility on the party to position itself as a credible and effective opposition force.
Describing Mark as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished former Senate Presidents, Dagogo pointed to his extensive experience in public service as a major asset for the party at a critical juncture in the nation’s political trajectory.
“I have strong confidence in the temperament, competence, and leadership abilities of Senator David Mark to not only guide the ADC but also to represent the collective hopes and aspirations of Nigerians seeking a rekindled national direction,” he said.
Dagogo emphasised that the new executive must remain proactive, focused, and responsive to the pressing challenges confronting the country, including economic hardship, insecurity, and governance deficits. According to him, the task ahead requires strategic thinking and a clear commitment to national interest.
He added that with a team comprising experienced political figures, the ADC is well positioned to build a solid foundation for addressing Nigeria’s challenges. He noted that an increasing number of Nigerians now see the party as a viable alternative capable of delivering stability, accountability, and economic progress.
“To whom much support, trust, and goodwill are given, much more is expected in return. Nigerians are deeply invested in the ADC, seeing it as a credible platform to drive meaningful change and build a more secure and prosperous future for all,” Dagogo added.
The convention also recorded a major internal milestone, as delegates overwhelmingly approved amendments to the party’s constitution. A total of 1,471 out of 1,576 accredited delegates voted in favour, representing a 94 per cent endorsement.
The event attracted several high-profile political figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal, and Rauf Aregbesola, alongside serving and former lawmakers and ministers, highlighting the growing political interest around the ADC ahead of the next electoral cycle.
