CUPP backs Minority Caucus, urges Tinubu to lead effectively or resign

The Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) has thrown its weight behind the position of the House of Representatives Minority Caucus, which called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to either demonstrate effective leadership in addressing Nigeria’s worsening challenges or consider resignation.
Acting National Chairman
Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP), Chief Peter Ameh in a statement issued in Abuja said it fully aligns with the Minority Caucus, insisting that the level of hardship, insecurity, and economic pressure currently facing Nigerians demands urgent and decisive leadership response.
According to the coalition of opposition parties, governance must be measured by tangible improvements in the lives of citizens, not political rhetoric or promises.
“In a sane clime, any elected official who refuses to produce results of good governance that improve the lives of the people should honourably resign,” the statement read.
CUPP urged President Tinubu and his administration to immediately intensify efforts to tackle insecurity, economic hardship, inflation, and broader welfare concerns affecting Nigerians across the country.
“Leadership is not a right but a responsibility. Where this responsibility is not being discharged effectively, the honourable path is resignation,” the group added.
The coalition stressed that its position is driven by concern for the Nigerian people, reiterating that governance must remain accountable, responsive, and people-centred.
CUPP further stated that it will continue to advocate for good governance, transparency, and accountability, while closely monitoring developments in the country’s political and economic landscape.
“We will not hesitate to speak the truth in the best interest of the Nigerian people,” the statement concluded.
