After Losing Governorship Primary, Ex-IGP Mohammed Adamu Quits APC

Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu Abubakar, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his defeat in the party’s governorship primary in Nasarawa State.
In a resignation letter addressed to APC ward executives in Lafia Local Government Area, Adamu said his decision was driven by what he described as a breakdown of internal democracy and fairness during the primary election.
He stated that the process left him with no confidence in the party’s leadership in the state, particularly alleging that the exercise failed to provide equal opportunity and transparency for aspirants.
According to him, the conduct of the primary made it difficult for him to continue political activities under the APC, adding that the decision came after consultations with his supporters, associates, and family members.
Adamu emphasized that internal democracy, fairness, and transparency should guide any credible political party, lamenting that the recent primary did not reflect those principles.
He also expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunity to serve while he was a member, and thanked party stakeholders across different levels for their support.
Although he confirmed his exit from the party, the former police chief did not disclose his next political destination or future platform.
His resignation comes amid growing tensions within party structures over internal selection processes and increasing complaints from aspirants about alleged irregularities in primaries across the country.
