FCT-IRS Extends Deadline for Filing Individual Tax Returns by One Month
The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has announced a one-month extension for the filing of individual annual income tax returns, moving the deadline from March 31 to April 30, 2026.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Head of Corporate Communications, Mustapha Sumaila, the Ag. Executive Chairman of the FCT-IRS, Mr. Michael Ango, explained that while the statutory deadline for filing annual individual tax returns remains March 31 each year, the extension is intended to provide taxpayers with additional time to prepare and submit accurate returns. The move, he noted, is also aimed at improving overall tax compliance within the Federal Capital Territory.
Mr. Ango stressed the importance of timely filing, urging individuals to embrace voluntary compliance as both a civic responsibility and a meaningful contribution to national development.
He further reiterated that electronic filing via the FCT-IRS tax portal remains the official and approved channel for submitting annual returns. Taxpayers are encouraged to use the platform at www.taxporta.fctirs.gov.ng, which he described as secure, efficient, and user-friendly, as the Service continues to strengthen its digital tax administration system.
The FCT-IRS boss also advised taxpayers to ensure that accurate personal details—particularly National Identification Numbers (NIN), phone numbers, and residential addresses—are correctly provided during registration on the portal, in order to avoid delays in processing.
For further enquiries or assistance, taxpayers may visit any FCT-IRS office or contact the Service via email at contactus@fctirs.gov.ng and info@fctirs.gov.ng, or by phone through 07002200002, 08058919796, 08038749827, and 07011111400.
