Police debunks social media report of impending bandits’ attack on Kogi East

As CP calls meeting over disputed Ibaji fish pond, land

THE Nigeria Police, Kogi State Command has debunked on-going social media reports on possible bandits attack in Kogi East Senatorial District describing it as false.
CSP Williams Ovye Aya who disclosed this in a statement in Lokoja said Police wish to inform the general public that the report “is unverifiable and does not constitute any element of truth.
“The Command wants to assure the public that we are taking this very seriously and have put measures in place to ensure safety of lives and property in the State.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has ordered deployment of tactical teams, including Police Mobile Force, counter terrorism, Quick Response and intelligence units, to strategic locations across the state.
“Additional security assets have also been deployed to carry out operations and meet any unforeseen situations in critical areas.
“We urge the public to remain calm and verify information through official sources before sharing. Noting that false claims can cause unnecessary panic.
“We appeal to everyone to work together with the Police and other security agencies to keep the state safe. If you notice anything suspicious, please report without hesitation. Security is a shared responsibility”, he said.

In same vein, CP Kankarofi, has organised a strategic peace meeting between Itale and Ishi communities of Ibaji Local Government Area to resolve a lingering dispute over a fishing pond and land.
The Command’s spokesman, CSP William Ovye Aya, who disclosed this in a separate statement on Tuesday said meeting was prompted by concerns over clashes arising from ownership claims on the fish pond and land.
He said that both sides had to be invited for a peace talk as some youths from the communities are poised to take laws into their hands even as the case is pending at the Upper Area Court, Idah.
According to CSP Aya, the Commissioner had appealed to both parties to maintain peace and refrain from any form of hostilities and allow the court determine the case.
Aya said both communities representatives agreed to maintain peace until the court case is resolved as he assured that the command is committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Kogi State. (Ends)
