Akwa Ibom Police Dismiss Viral Message on Alleged Boko Haram Influx
***Warn Against Spreading False Alerts
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed a viral social media message claiming that Boko Haram fighters have infiltrated several Southern and North-Central states, including Lagos, Ilorin and Rivers State.
The message also alleged that key holders embedded with tracking devices were being distributed at public places.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, described the message as fake, misleading and capable of causing unjustified panic. She said no intelligence report from any security agency supports the claims circulating online.
“Residents of Akwa Ibom State are advised to disregard the fabricated alert. It is aimed solely at inciting fear and tension,” the statement read.
DSP John assured the public that the Command has strengthened security measures across all Local Government Areas, with patrol units, surveillance teams, tactical squads and community policing structures fully deployed and monitoring the environment.
While urging citizens to remain calm, the Command encouraged the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or security outfit.
The statement emphasized that public cooperation and responsible information sharing remain essential to maintaining peace and safety in the state.
