Nigeria Strengthens Defence Ties at BAMEX 2025 in Mali
In a show of regional leadership and commitment to continental security, Nigeria’s Defence Minister, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, arrived in Bamako today to participate in the maiden International Defence and Security Exhibition (BAMEX 2025).
The Minister received a grand military welcome at the Military Wing of Bamako International Airport, where he was greeted by General Sadio Camara, Malian Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, alongside senior military officials.
The ceremony featured a colourful parade by the Malian Armed Forces, symbolizing the strong bonds between Nigeria and Mali.
During the visit, Minister Badaru held a courtesy meeting with the Prime Minister of Mali, General Abdoulaye Maiga, alongside key Nigerian security officials, including the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Director of Operations at Defence Headquarters.
The meeting underscored mutual commitment to defence collaboration and regional security.
“Nigeria values its long-standing partnership with Mali and is committed to working together to tackle shared security challenges,” Minister Badaru said. He also conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s warm greetings to the Government and people of Mali, affirming Nigeria’s dedication to deepening bilateral relations.
Prime Minister Maiga expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s participation in BAMEX 2025, describing it as a demonstration of solidarity, cooperation, and regional leadership.
BAMEX 2025 provides a platform for African nations and global partners to exchange ideas, showcase defence innovations, and forge strategic partnerships to address contemporary security threats across the continent.
“This exhibition is not only about technology but about unity, collaboration, and the shared goal of peace and stability in Africa,” Minister Badaru added.
The Minister’s visit reinforces Nigeria’s role as a key security partner in West Africa, highlighting the country’s proactive engagement in promoting regional peace, military cooperation, and defence innovation.
