The Manpower Development Institute (MDI), Jigawa State, has organised a one-day capacity-building workshop for 40 library officers drawn from various sectors across the state to enhance their proficiency in e-library operations and digital resource management.
Declaring the workshop open, the Director-General of MDI, Alhaji Umar Faruk Wada, said the initiative was designed to equip participants with modern skills in library administration and prepare them to meet the demands of digitalisation and emerging technologies.
“This initiative aligns with our mandate to improve the standards and competencies of manpower in both the public and private sectors in Jigawa State and the country at large,” Wada stated.
He explained that the training would not only strengthen the capacity of librarians for more efficient service delivery but also form part of the institute’s continuous professional development programme.
According to him, libraries remain vital institutions for knowledge preservation and access to information, and librarians play a pivotal role in ensuring these resources are effectively managed for public benefit.
Participants were drawn from ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs), private organisations, as well as government and independent media houses across the state.
Resource persons delivered presentations on key topics, including Government and Administration in Library Practices, Functions of Government Libraries, Digital Libraries and Comparative Analysis, Dissemination of Information, and Collection Development.
Alhaji Wada reaffirmed MDI’s commitment to advancing digital literacy and professional excellence across sectors, noting that the institute would continue to introduce cutting-edge training modules to strengthen human capital in Jigawa State.
