PSC Draws Battle Line Against Political Hijack of 2025 Police Recruitment
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has vowed to shut out political interference and block the sale of recruitment slots as it prepares for the 2025 intake of Cadet ASPs and Constables.
At a high-level meeting with representatives from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, warned state governments to defend their recruitment quotas and resist any attempt to hijack the process.
The meeting, themed “Collaborative Approach for a Transparent and Equitable Police Recruitment Process”, was part of efforts to deliver a clean, competitive, and merit-driven exercise.

“We want to stop corruption in the system and open up the exercise to promote healthy competition and equitable spread,” Argungu said, pledging to work closely with states to block slot trading and undue special considerations.
Retired Supreme Court Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, representing the judiciary in the PSC, stressed that the Commission was founded on equity and fairness and will no longer allow vested interests to capture the process.
Retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu, PSC commissioner representing the police, assured that the new management is committed to reinventing recruitment to produce the finest crop of young Nigerians for the Force.
