In a bold move to enhance the health and education sectors in Jigawa State, Senator Babangida Hussaini, representing Jigawa Northwest Senatorial District, has launched a series of impactful projects and donations worth hundreds of millions of naira.
Speaking during the Jigawa State Government Citizen Engagement Programme (JSGCEP) tagged “Gwamnati da Jama’a”, held in Garki town, the senator announced key interventions aimed at improving the lives of his constituents.
Among the projects is the donation of a brand-new 18-seater Homa bus worth over N100 million to Government Senior Secondary School (GSS) Garki, along with the construction and furnishing of a three-classroom block at the school, valued at N60 million.
In the health sector, Senator Hussaini revealed the provision of a power generator to the Garki Primary Healthcare Clinic to alleviate the challenges posed by the current heatwave and irregular power supply, especially for patients requiring constant medical care and storage of essential drugs.
He also donated a motorcycle and essential drugs to the clinic, and sponsored free eye treatments for 150 individuals under his healthcare support program.
“In many parts of the country, erratic power supply is a major concern. We provided a generator to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services for our people,” he stated.
As part of his education support initiative, Senator Hussaini also sponsored 22 indigent students from the area studying in various tertiary institutions and covered the cost of JAMB registration for students with five credits including Maths and English.
To boost human capital development, a modern skills acquisition centre equipped with industrial sewing machines and other facilities, worth over N100 million, was established in the local government headquarters. Five youths were trained and empowered to start Point of Sale (POS) businesses, while 55 women—mostly widows—received grants of N10,000 monthly for four months.
Additionally, dry season farmers across the 11 political wards of the senatorial district received improved wheat seedlings and farming inputs to support food security and local economic growth.
On infrastructure, Senator Hussaini disclosed the construction of a road linking Kore to Majiya, installation of solar streetlights in four major towns, and the donation of a N20 million electricity transformer to Sabon Garin Garki community.
The senator commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for initiating the citizen engagement programme, which he said fosters direct communication between elected officials and the electorate to drive inclusive development.
