A quiet community in Adavi Local Government Area was thrown into mourning as a tragic road accident in Okunchi claimed the lives of seven persons leaving several others injured.
The heart-wrenching incident has drawn an emotional response from Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, who, despite being on official duty in China, issued a statement mourning the victims and demanding stronger emergency response systems.
His special adviser on media Ismaila Isah in the statement quoted him,
“These were hardworking citizens—mothers, fathers, breadwinners—who left their homes in search of daily sustenance and never returned,” Governor Ododo said in his moving tribute. “Their deaths are not just personal losses to their families, but collective wounds to our community.”
The Governor did not hold back in his condemnation of the reckless behavior that caused the crash, calling for urgent action to prevent similar tragedies. He commended Chairman of Adavi LGA, Hon. Bashiru Okatengwu, for mobilizing emergency responders swiftly, but stressed that local emergency healthcare facilities must be reviewed to handle such crises more effectively.
In the midst of the tragedy, stories of neighborly compassion have emerged. Locals rushed to assist victims, offered shelter to grieving families, and stood shoulder to shoulder in the aftermath—acts the Governor described as a “true reflection of Kogi’s spirit.”
With the state now reeling from the incident, Governor Ododo’s call is clear: Let this never happen again.
