Global Outcry as Finland Detains Biafran Leader Simon Ekpa Amid Nigeria’s Allegations
The detention of Simon Ekpa, Prime Minister of the self-declared United States of Biafra, by Finnish authorities has sparked international outrage, with accusations of collusion between Finland and Nigeria to suppress Biafra’s independence movement.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Dr. Ngozi Orabueze, Deputy Prime Minister of the Biafran government, criticized Finland’s actions as a betrayal of human rights and self-determination.
She alleged that the detention was part of a broader conspiracy orchestrated by Nigeria to silence Biafra’s push for freedom.
“This detention is an unjust attempt to weaken the Biafran people’s resolve. Finland has no right to aid Nigeria’s oppressive agenda,” Dr. Orabueze said, calling for Ekpa’s immediate release while investigations continue.
The statement highlighted recent attacks on Biafrans, allegedly carried out by Nigerian forces and reintegrated militants under the command of Defence Chief Christopher Musa. She called on international bodies, including the United Nations and Amnesty International, to pressure Finland and Nigeria to respect human rights. “Biafrans are being killed daily, and yet the world looks away while freedom fighters like Simon Ekpa are criminalized,” Orabueze added.
The Biafran Deputy Prime Minister urged Biafrans worldwide to remain committed to the cause, emphasizing that the movement’s goals extend beyond any single individual.
“The quest for independence is the collective desire of a people seeking justice and equity,” she declared, stressing the need for international recognition of their plight.
