Police probe alleged shooting near Enugu NDC secretariat

The Enugu State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged shooting near the secretariat of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), following reports that a man was injured and five vehicles damaged.
The incident reportedly occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, when unidentified armed men allegedly opened fire in front of the party’s secretariat.
The injured man was reportedly repairing a vehicle parked along the road when he sustained a suspected gunshot wound. Police operatives rushed him to hospital, where he is said to be in stable condition.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and track down those responsible.
The alleged shooting came hours after a separate security disturbance involving suspected NDC supporters at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.
According to the police, the airport incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. when party members reportedly gathered to receive their governorship candidate.
Police spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe said airport authorities had restricted the number of party members allowed into the facility, leading to a disagreement that allegedly degenerated into a fight.
Joint police and military operatives subsequently intervened to disperse the crowd and restore order, the command said.
The police have urged political parties and their supporters to avoid violence and comply with the law during political activities.
Giwa also called on political parties to notify the command ahead of rallies and other engagements to enable adequate security arrangements.
The police said investigations into the alleged shooting were ongoing. It was not immediately clear whether the two incidents were connected.
