2027 Coalition Takes Shape as Kwankwaso Backs Obi, Accepts VP Role
Nigeria’s opposition politics may be witnessing a major realignment ahead of 2027, as former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso openly backed Peter Obi for president and signalled his willingness to serve as running mate if consensus demands it.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News PrimeTime, Kwankwaso said the nation’s urgent need is no longer about North or South, but about credible leadership capable of tackling insecurity, economic hardship and growing public frustration.
He described Obi as one of the few politicians with the capacity to reposition the country, while stressing that young Nigerians are increasingly rejecting ethnic and religious politics in favour of competence, accountability and results.
The former NNPP presidential candidate also disclosed that the Kwankwasiyya and Obedient movements have already built working relationships across the country as coalition efforts gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election.
