Wike: PDP Not Ready for 2027, Heading for Self-Destruction

In a fiery media chat that left no political camp unscathed, former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is woefully unprepared for the 2027 general elections. Speaking with trademark candour, Wike accused both proponents of a coalition and those insisting on a solo run of being insincere and driven by personal ambition rather than party survival.

“Let’s be honest—nobody’s telling the truth,” Wike said. “Both sides are playing games while the party continues to implode. This is not opposition. This is self-destruction.”

He warned that PDP is repeating the same mistakes that cost it the 2023 elections, especially the disregard for internal processes and constitutional norms.
“The governors’ forum is behaving like the party’s supreme organ,” he said. “That’s not just illegal—it’s dangerous.”

Wike didn’t hold back from naming names. He recounted how he once called Governor Seyi Makinde to challenge a public statement he described as false.
He emphasized that party leaders must be held to account, including those exploiting constitutional loopholes or overstepping their bounds.

“You can’t say you’re studying for an exam and yet never enter the library,” he said in a sharp metaphor for the party’s current state. “The PDP is pretending to prepare for 2027. But you can’t rig out the opposition if you’re already rigging yourself out from within.”

Wike also addressed his own controversial political choices, including his refusal to support Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 race.
“I believe in power rotation. Atiku doesn’t keep his word. I saw that in 2019 and confirmed it in 2022,” he said. “I made my choice. Let everyone live with the consequences of theirs.”

He insisted his open support for President Tinubu was based on performance, not party affiliation. “I won’t sneak to the Villa at night and pretend I wasn’t there. If someone is doing well, I’ll say it.”

In closing, Wike made it clear that unless the PDP gets its house in order, he won’t support the party in 2027. “This isn’t about bitterness. It’s about truth. The party needs honesty, cohesion, and respect for structure. If not, it will lose again—this time, even worse.”
