Presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala has laid bare the political stakes behind President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election strategy, declaring that the administration cannot afford to lose FCT Minister Nyesom Wike amid his growing confrontation with APC governors.
Bwala’s remarks expose the importance the Tinubu camp attaches to Wike as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Naija Unfiltered, Bwala argued that Wike has more at stake than the APC governors involved in the dispute, while dismissing suggestions that the disagreement amounts to a civil war within the ruling party.
His comments come as the former Rivers governor remains a key figure in the political calculations surrounding Tinubu’s second-term bid and the opposition’s attempts to build a broad coalition against the President.
Bwala also fired back at Datti Baba-Ahmed’s call for Tinubu to abandon his 2027 ambition, defending the President’s record and listing what he described as major achievements of the administration.
The presidential aide further tackled growing criticism of Tinubu’s economic policies, including fuel prices, rising transport costs and the impact of the administration’s CNG initiative on Nigerians.
On the President’s 21-day working vacation, Bwala addressed questions over the exercise of presidential authority in Tinubu’s absence, as well as speculation surrounding the President’s health.
He also weighed in on insecurity, blaming governors and local government chairmen for part of the responsibility for security failures and explaining how Lagos has tackled insecurity without state police.
The interview also covered the Niger mining tragedy, the probe involving mining marshals, Peter Obi and the 2023 election, the Muslim-Muslim ticket, and the emerging political battle ahead of 2027.
