Senate Hails Security Forces Over Rescue of Late General’s Widow

The Senate Committee on Army has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for the successful rescue of Mrs Amina Abubakar, widow of the late Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, during a coordinated security operation in Katsina State.
The commendation followed the outcome of Operation Fansan Yamma, which involved personnel of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, and other security agencies working jointly to secure the victim’s release from abductors.
In a statement issued by the Committee Chairman, Sen. Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the lawmakers described the operation as a clear indication of improved inter-agency coordination and growing effectiveness in ongoing counter-banditry efforts in the North-West.
The Committee noted that the successful rescue underscores the impact of sustained security operations aimed at degrading terrorist and kidnapping networks operating across vulnerable communities.
It extended condolences to the family of the late Maj. Gen. Abubakar and wished Mrs Abubakar a speedy and full recovery as she receives medical attention following the ordeal.
The lawmakers stressed that while security agencies are making progress, lasting victory against insecurity requires sustained collaboration between the military and the public.
They urged citizens to play a more active role by providing timely and credible intelligence, warning that community vigilance remains a critical tool in preventing attacks and supporting security operations.
The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to continued legislative backing, oversight, and funding support to strengthen the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.
It expressed confidence that with improved coordination and public cooperation, ongoing operations would further weaken criminal networks and enhance national security outcomes.
