SEGUN OYEBOLU … OF OGUN OR OYO OR LAGOS STATE?
… Oyebolu was never a Governorship Candidate in Ondo State, but the State still wants him to account for the bungling of massive computer project for which prosecution was put in abeyance._
Mr Segun Oyebolu was the career officer who used to be an ICT staff, consultant, and contractor in the Aviation industry. He is a native of Omi-Ole village in Ogun State. He had freely claimed to be an indigene of either Ogun or Oyo State in the past. Sometimes he claimed to be from Lagos State, but he has never claimed to be of Ondo State origin.
However, he was a known ICT contractor to the PDP Government of Ondo State between 2004 and 2009 during which he supplied over 500 computers which the same Ondo State Government later found were inappropriate and unworthy. His computer project was therefore stopped, and he was dispensed with. He vanished from Ondo State in 2009 only to resurface as an emissary of the great Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Tayo Jegede, esq. of the PDP in 2024.

Mr Ogbonna Uchechukwu, the sacked National Youth Leader of the SDP, recently expelled from the Party for misconduct and financial misappropriation, tied himself to Mr Oyebolu when the former SDP Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam admitted Oyebolu into SDP in April 2024 as part of the advance team of Mr Tayo Jegede said to be getting ready to defect to SDP ahead of the 2024 Governorship elections.
Gabam immediately appointed Oyebolu as the Ondo State Chairman and then nominated him as the placeholder of the governorship candidature for his mentor, Mr Tayo Jegede.
Trouble started when the renowned lawyer, Mr Tayo Jegede decided he was not ready to leave PDP to join SDP. Mr Oyebolu, consequently moved to demand a full refund of the money Jegede’s associates deposited with Gabam, but Gabam refused to let go. Then, Oyebolu turned to the Ondo SDP Exco to request payment for the three used tables and four used chairs he brought to the Ondo State Secretariat. He also demanded the refund of part of the rent of the new Ondo Secretariat that he paid. He brought welders to seal off the Secretariat on 15 June 2024 and pasted a quit notice on the Secretariat building and brought thugs and bouncers to secure the premises.
The Ondo Excos promptly reported to the Police and showed the Commissioner of Police relevant documents and regained possession of the building which they still use to date. The Exco wrote Oyebolu that he could come and take away his old furniture already packed out of the Secretariat.
Mr Oyebolu resigned on June 16 2024 after spending only 6 weeks in the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Barrister Gbenga Akinbuli, the Deputy at the time, took over as the State Chairman. During his six-week tenure as State Chairman, from May to mid-June 2024, Oyebolu visited Ondo State on three occasions for a total of nine days during which he was only hobnobbing with PDP chieftains in the State. He never held a single State Working Committee meeting and never met any LG Chair. He also never attended the primary election that produced him as a dummy Candidate.
On 6th July 2024, a Substitution Primaries elected Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, a prominent Ondo State politician from Okitipupa LG, Ondo State as the 2024 Governorship Candidate of SDP. He contested the elections in November 2024 and challenged the election results at the Tribunal in December 2024.
Oyebolu misinformed the public when he introduced himself as the “SDP Gubernatorial Candidate of SDP in Ondo State in 2024”. He lied. It was Otunba Bamidele Akingboye who was the SDP Governorship Candidate. In 2020, it was Chief Oyeleye Fasua from Akure South LG, and in 2016, it was Chief Olu Agunloye from Akoko North West LG who was the Governorship Candidate of Ondo State. Mr Oyebolu has never been Ondo’s Governorship Candidate.
Mr Oyebolu is only known in Ondo State as the Contractor who made a mess of a huge supply of bogus computer-related materials in an elaborate computer project for the Ondo State Government which the same Government cancelled and decided on a path to prosecute him. Mr. Oyebolu fled the soil of Ondo State in January 2009 until he resurfaced in June 2024 with Tayo Jegede hoping that Jegede would become Ondo Governor in November 2024 and has now resurfaced in October 2025 to speak on behalf of one of the recently expelled SDP National Officers and to remind Ondo State of the bungled 2005 to 2008 computer project whose prosecution was put in abeyance.
