Security forces foil attack in Plateau, one suspect arrested

Security operatives have thwarted an early morning attack on Pwomol village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, leaving three people dead and one injured.
The attack, which occurred at about 4:30 a.m., triggered a rapid response from the Nigeria Police Force after reports of gunfire in the community.
A joint team of police, military personnel, and other security agencies was deployed to the area, where they engaged the assailants in a gun duel. The attackers were eventually forced to retreat into surrounding mountainous areas under pressure from the security forces.
During follow-up operations, one suspect, identified as Suleiman, was arrested near the Redemption Camp axis. Police said he was found with visible blood stains and is currently assisting with investigations.
The state Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, visited the community for an on-the-spot assessment, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to track down fleeing attackers and ensure justice for the victims.
He called on residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information.
In response to the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has reinforced security deployments in the area, with intensified patrols and improved inter-agency coordination aimed at preventing further violence.
Authorities say the latest response underscores ongoing efforts to contain insecurity and restore confidence among affected communities.
