Rivers Gov Fubara Sacks Commissioners, Public Officers After Supreme Court Ruling
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed all commissioners and other public office holders in his administration with immediate effect.
The decision was announced in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, on Wednesday evening in Port Harcourt, citing the recent Supreme Court judgment that restored Fubara to office after months of emergency rule.
At a valedictory session with his cabinet to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Fubara thanked the outgoing officials for their service over the past two years, pledging to “serve the state with renewed vigour.”

The move comes weeks after the exit of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), who was appointed administrator during the emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu in March. Ibas had earlier suspended all Fubara’s appointees and dissolved state boards.
With the Assembly already calling for fresh commissioner-nominees and the 2025 budget, the governor is expected to reconstitute a new cabinet in the coming days.
