In a major win against organized crime in Nasarawa State, police operatives have arrested Abashe Gizo, a notorious cattle rustler and criminal kingpin linked to multiple kidnappings, armed robberies, and large-scale cattle thefts.
The arrest took place at Shinge Market in Lafia, the state capital, following an intense manhunt driven by credible intelligence and led by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Rahman Nansel, Gizo, who had been evading arrest for years through a complex network of hideouts, finally succumbed after a carefully coordinated operation.
On arrest, Gizo confessed to his involvement in a string of violent crimes across Doma Local Government Area and neighboring communities. He also led investigators to his hideout in Ruwan Baka village, where a high-powered AK-49 rifle (Breach No. 453144) and a loaded magazine were recovered.
Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, described the arrest as a “significant blow to organized crime in Nasarawa.” He assured the public that “criminals have nowhere to hide.”
This arrest follows the recent capture of Fatima Salisu, an alleged arms courier intercepted while transporting ammunition from Doma to Katsina State. Authorities are probing possible links between the two suspects, suggesting a wider criminal network operating across state lines.
CP Mohammed urged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement by providing timely information. “Together, we can eradicate threats to peace and restore confidence in public safety across Nasarawa,” he said.
This breakthrough highlights the strengthened partnership between police intelligence and local communities, which has led to several high-profile arrests in recent months. With a key kingpin behind bars and dangerous weapons off the streets, Nasarawa is taking a decisive step toward safer communities.
