PAAU Governing Council Hails VC Ogbo’s Strong Start in 100 Days

The Governing Council of Prince Abubakar Audu University has expressed satisfaction with the early performance of its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, describing his first 100 days in office as a “remarkable and purposeful take-off.”
The commendation followed the Council’s 72nd Regular Meeting held on May 22, 2026, marking exactly 100 days since Prof. Usman assumed office on February 11, 2026.
In a statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Uredo Omale, the Council Chairman, Prof. Mohammed Suleiman Audu, noted that stakeholder feedback and the Vice-Chancellor’s performance report reflected “focused leadership and visible progress” across key areas of the university.
Council members unanimously agreed to formally commend the Vice-Chancellor for what they termed a strong and steady administrative start.
Within the period under review, the university recorded notable gains in staff welfare, academic development, infrastructure renewal, conflict resolution, and campus security.
A major highlight was the promotion of 25 academic staff members to Professor and Reader ranks, including eight Professors and 17 Readers, a move the Council described as a boost to academic capacity and morale.
The administration was also praised for resolving long-standing institutional disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), including five of 12 court cases involving the university, as well as settling a lingering salary issue affecting eight staff members since 2019.
On academic reforms, the Council applauded efforts to revive the university’s inaugural lecture tradition, with plans to expand the series from 17 to 46 by June 2027. Two lectures have already been delivered, while the 20th is scheduled for June 2, 2026.
Infrastructure and welfare improvements also featured prominently. These include the rehabilitation of five boreholes, renovation of the long-abandoned Dangana Hostel, and waiver of hostel dues for hostel governors.
The relocation of informal business activities to a designated campus market was also noted as part of efforts to align with the university master plan.
The Council further commended the institution’s 100 percent success rate in the 2025 accreditation exercise covering 22 academic programmes, alongside improved collaboration with security agencies to strengthen campus safety.
It also highlighted ongoing engagement with the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to improve power supply, as well as a generous alumni donation of a multi-million naira Library and Research Centre to the Department of Accounting.
The Council said these achievements reflected the confidence placed in Prof. Usman by Ahmed Usman Ododo at the time of his appointment.
Responding, Prof. Usman expressed appreciation to the Governing Council and reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining reforms aimed at strengthening academic excellence and institutional stability.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Marietu Ohunene Tenuche, noting that her tenure laid a solid foundation for ongoing progress.
He further commended staff, students, host communities, security agencies, and other stakeholders for their cooperation during his first 100 days in office.
