Onaiwu Cautions Gov. Diri against Betraying the Party that made him

As whispers grow louder about a possible defection, political heavyweight Earl Osaro Onaiwu has delivered a blunt warning to Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri: don’t abandon the PDP now.

In a strongly worded statement, the founding Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum reminded Diri that his rise — from commissioner to senator and now two-term governor — was made possible by the platform and loyalty of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“The PDP gave you everything,” Onaiwu said. “To jump ship now would not just be disloyal — it would be self-erasure.”

He cited the hollow outcomes of similar defections, asking pointedly: “Those who left before you—what have they gained? Regret. Silence. Irrelevance.”

For Onaiwu, the issue isn’t just political—it’s moral. “Leadership is tested by loyalty, especially when it’s inconvenient. Fix the leaks. Don’t flee the house.”

Calling the PDP Nigeria’s last true national party, Onaiwu warned that history watches such choices closely.

“Stay true. Finish strong. Posterity keeps receipts.”
