Nigerian Army Unveils New Combat Drones, Precision Strike Systems

The Nigerian Army has acquired additional combat drones and advanced military platforms aimed at boosting surveillance, precision strikes, target tracking and casualty evacuation operations as part of efforts to strengthen ongoing counter-insurgency campaigns across the country.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, disclosed this at the end of the First Bi-Annual Chief of Army Staff Conference 2026, saying the newly deployed assets are already contributing to operational gains in the North-East.
According to the Army Chief, the evolving nature of modern security threats demands that the military remain proactive, technologically driven and adaptable in confronting insurgency, terrorism and other emerging challenges.
Shaibu noted that the newly acquired platforms have enhanced intelligence gathering, surveillance operations and precision engagement capabilities, particularly within conflict zones.
He explained that the military’s recent successes against insurgents in the North-East were partly achieved through the deployment of the new combat systems and improved operational coordination.
“The true value of this conference will not merely lie in the quality of presentations delivered, but in the extent to which these lessons are learned and the decisions reached are implemented,” the COAS stated.
The Army Chief directed commanders across formations to immediately translate resolutions reached during the conference into practical actions capable of improving field operations and overall military effectiveness.
Beyond combat operations, Shaibu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to troops’ welfare, insisting that soldiers remain the Nigerian Army’s most valuable asset.
He disclosed that discussions during the conference focused heavily on improving welfare packages, prompt payment of entitlements, healthcare delivery, educational support and living conditions for personnel and their families.
According to him, motivated troops operating in conducive environments are more likely to maintain high morale, professionalism and combat efficiency.
Shaibu also revealed that several intervention projects are currently ongoing in army formations nationwide to improve accommodation, working facilities and operational readiness.
The conference, he said, also produced renewed commitments toward institutional accountability, stronger professional standards and improved performance assessment mechanisms within the Army.
“I have carefully observed the depth of contributions during this conference and I’m particularly encouraged by the maturity, sincerity and strategic focus that characterise our engagements,” he said.
The Army Chief further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for continued support to the Armed Forces, noting that government backing has enabled major transformation initiatives within the Nigerian Army.
He maintained that sustaining investment in modern military technology and personnel welfare would remain critical to strengthening national security operations across the country.
